December 8-9 Weekend Picks: Lots of Markets!

The variety and quantity of Holiday Markets this weekend are enough to keep even the most determined elf busy. On Saturday, support an art student when the Corcoran and MICA sell art made by students and faculty. This whole weekend the Rock Art Show in Montgomery Mall or on Sunday the annual Rock N' Shop at the Black Cat find the perfect gift for the hippie or hipster in your life.

The focus is on pieces and photographs from rock artists of the mid 60s to early 70s like John Lennon, Grace Slick, and Jim Hendrix. Also Ron Campbell, one of the key animators of the Beatles cartoons and the Yellow Submarine movie will be on hand answering questions and creating a unique art piece featuring the characters from the film which you can bid on. A portion of the proceeds benefit Food and Friends, a charitable organization that brings food to HIV and AIDS patients in the DC area.

Holy Trinity Ukrainian Catholic Church's Christmas Bazaar will feature traditional Ukrainian food (eat-in or to-go), Ukrainian icons, prayer beads, music and carols, ceramics, embroidered blouses and dresser scarves, jewelry, St. Nicholas cookies, pysanky, Christmas decorations, books, gifts. Tour the all wooden Hutsul style church, which was built with almost no nails.
